Support
Practical guidance for the parts of Library Surgeon that interact with Apple Photos and iCloud.
Photos access
- Access is off
Open iOS Settings, find Library Surgeon, choose Photos, and select the level of access you want to allow.
- Limited library
With limited access, only the videos you selected are available to scan. Manage the selection in iOS Settings if expected items are missing.
- Remove access
Removing Photos permission prevents further scans, previews, favourite changes, and deletion requests.
Scanning and results
- No videos found
Check Photos access first. If access is limited, allow more videos, return to Library Surgeon, and run a rescan.
- Some sizes are unknown
Apple does not expose a reliable file size for every asset. Unknown sizes do not match size filters and are excluded from known-size totals.
- Reset the index
Use Clear Local Index in Settings, then scan again. This removes only the on-device metadata cache; it does not modify your Photos library.
- iCloud-only media
The metadata-first scan does not download full-resolution originals. A preview you explicitly open may need to be retrieved by Apple Photos.
Selection and deletion
- Nothing is automatic
Items are deleted only after you select them, review the selection, accept the Library Surgeon warning, and approve Apple Photos’ system confirmation.
- Storage did not change
Deleted media moves to Recently Deleted and can continue to occupy storage until Photos removes it permanently or you empty that album.
- Size total looks low
Selection totals include known sizes only. Any item whose size is unavailable remains in the selection but is not included in that total.
