Privacy Policy

Library Surgeon analyses photo-library metadata on your device. Your photos and videos are not uploaded.

Last updated: 19 July 2026

Scope

This policy explains how the Library Surgeon iOS app and this website handle information. The app is designed to keep photo-library processing on your device. The website is informational and does not reproduce the app’s functionality.

Information the app collects

Library Surgeon does not collect or transmit photos, videos, metadata, search history, device identifiers, or analytics events. It has no backend and requires no account.

Local metadata index

A local SwiftData index stores selected metadata solely on the device so the library does not need to be rebuilt on every launch. This index is not uploaded or shared with Library Surgeon.

How Photos access is used

Photo access is used only to:

  • inspect photo-library metadata;
  • display previews that you request;
  • change favourite status when you request it; and
  • submit explicitly selected deletions through Apple’s PhotoKit APIs.

A metadata-first scan does not download full-resolution iCloud media. Apple Photos may retrieve an individual item when you explicitly request its preview.

Deletion

Library Surgeon never deletes media automatically. Deleted items move to Apple Photos’ Recently Deleted album and may continue to occupy storage until permanently removed by Photos.

Your controls

Clearing the local index is available in Settings. Removing Photos access prevents further scanning and actions. You can manage Photos access in iOS Settings at any time.

This website

This website uses a limited, first-party analytics service to understand page visits and interactions explicitly marked for measurement. It records the page path without query parameters or fragments, the page title, the referring site’s origin, and random anonymous and session identifiers. The anonymous identifier is stored in local storage. The session identifier is stored in session storage and renews after 30 minutes without a measured event.

The website analytics does not collect names, email addresses, form contents, search text, complete URLs, authentication details, photo-library information, or IP addresses in its analytics payload. It does not use cookies, advertising, or third-party tracking pixels. As with any public website, infrastructure providers may process ordinary request information to deliver and secure the service.

Sharing and sale

Library Surgeon does not sell personal information or share it for advertising. Photo-library content and the local metadata index are not sent to Library Surgeon or its website host.

Retention

The local metadata index remains on your device until you clear it, remove the app, or iOS removes its data. Library Surgeon does not maintain a server-side copy of the index, your searches, or your photo-library content.

Changes to this policy

If Library Surgeon’s data practices change, this policy will be updated before those changes take effect. The date at the top of this page identifies the current version.
